OUR ACHIEVEMENTS
Given below is a brief account of all the projects that have been undertaken by the organisation since its inception. Though the company was formed in 2012, it started functioning in 2013.
2013
- Assessment of Wild Elephants Problem in Sindhudurg District (for Kolhapur Circle)
This project was assigned to us by the CCF Kolhapur to assess the problem of wildlife elephants in Sawantwadi Division and its adjoining areas of the Kolhapur Circle. The Project initiated in April and was completed in September.
- Study of Distribution and Assessment of Nothapodytes nimmoniana (Narkya) in Kolhapur Circle.
Nothapodytes nimmoniana earlier known as Mappia foetida found in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra is an endangered species as per the IUCN. The forest department tried repeated plantation of this species but survival rate was minimal. We were allotted a project to study the distribution of this plant in Kolhapur Circle and provide our input regarding its conservation. The project started in September and was completed in December
- Third Party Evaluation , Assessment and Compilation of Forest Development Agency Program undertaken in Sangli Forest Division
Various activities had been carried out by the Forest Development Agency in Sangli Forest Division of Kolhapur Circle. We were assigned the task of evaluating these activities as a third party. The project started in October and was completed in January 2014.

- Evaluation of the waterholes fitted with solar pump for conservation of wildlife in Bor Tiger Reserve, Maharashtra

This was a short project that was allotted to us by the CCF Evaluation, Nagpur to evaluated the efficiency and effectiveness of waterholes fitted with solar pumps on conservation wildlife in Bor Tiger Reserve. The duration of the project was 20days
2. A study for Evaluation of Waterholes for protection of wildlife outside protected areas (Project allocated by Forest Head Office, Nagpur)
This evaluation work was undertaken as a third party –External Evaluation. The works were related to waterhole development for wildlife management in the managed forest areas outside the Protected Areas, in eastern Maharashtra Region. The study area consisted of 12 Forest Divisions namely Nagpur, Wardha, Chandrapur Non-buffer, Central Chanda, Brahmapuri, Wadsa, Buldana, Yavatmal, Pandharkawada, Pusad, Allapalli and TATR-Buffer Divisions in 7 Forest Circles namely, Nagpur, Chandrapur, Garchiroli, Amravati, Yavatmal, Chandrapur Wildlife Circle. In all 220 waterholes in these divisions were evaluated. Our organisation competed for the tender of this project and was awarded the work in December 2013. The project was completed in early March 2014.
3. Mangatta Ecotourism and Interpretative Facility
We were invited by CCF Durg to design Eco-tourism and Interpretative Facility at Mangatta, Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh. A detailed project report was submitted in March 2014
4. Conservation Plan for Gopani Iron and Power (India)Pvt Ltd
We were assigned the task of developing a Conservation Plan for M/s Gopani Iron & Power (India) Ltd (GIPL) located at MIDC Tadali in the Chandrapur District Maharashtra. For the Environmental captive utilization of iron ore it had applied for a mining lease in Bhamragarh Forest Division in Etapalli Tehsil of Gadchiroli District, Maharashtra. Since the area is located in the Reserved Forests of South Etapalli Range of Bhamragarh Forest division, it came under the purview of the Forest Conservation Act, 1980. Therefore, the requisite proposal was submitted by GIPL for diversion of the forestland for the purpose of a mining lease. The conservation plan developed by us contained Wildlife Mitigation Plan, Corridor Plan, Fire Management Plan, Working Plan Prescriptions visà-vis Wildlife in Managed Forest Prescriptions, and the Monitoring and Evaluation Plan. The project started in June and was completed in August
5. Development of Eco-Tourism Facilities at Sarguja,
We were assigned the task of developing an integrated plan for development of Eco-Tourism facilities at Sarguja by the CCF. The plan was developed and submitted to the CCF
2015
- Technical Assistance for Tiger Conservation Plan
Technical assistance was provided to staff of Achanakmar Tiger Reserve to complete the Tiger Conservation Plan
- Leopard Safari at Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Mumbai
We were assigned the task of developing a concept for Leopard Safari at Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Mumbai by the Field Director. We developed the concept of a State of the Art safari and submitted the note to the Field Director.
- Tiger Safari at Achanakmar Tiger Reserve, Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh
We were assigned the task of developing a concept for Tiger Safari at Achanakmar Tiger Reserve, Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh by CCF Wildlife. We developed the concept of a State of the Art safari and submitted the note to the CCF.
- Ecosystem Services and Human Well- Being- A Chhattisgarh Forest Department Initiative
The central idea of this Project Proposal was conservation of avifauna in a conglomerate of waterbodies and villages where village communities seem to live in harmony with the birds visiting the area and that resident to the area.
- Tiger Safari at Mangatta, Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh
We were assigned the task of developing a concept for Tiger Safari at Mangatta, Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh by CCF Durg. We developed the concept of a State of the Art safari and submitted the note to the CCF.
- Kotmisonar Crocodile Sanctuary, Chhattisgarh
We were assigned the task of developing a development plan for a Crocodile Sanctuary at Kotmisonar, Chhattisgarh in November and the plan was submitted in December.
- Monitoring and Capacity Building Programme
Our organisation conducted a monitoring and capacity building programme for the officers and staffs of the Achanakmar Tiger Reserve.
Year- 2016
A Digital Spatial Planning and Management Support System Perspective for Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Mumbai Maharashtra
The Digital Planning and Management Support System envisages to bring about a transition in planning and management processes from Data Oriented Compilation to Analysis- Oriented Integration. It has also laid out ground for bringing about this transition by suggesting Geoinformation Technology-Oriented measures. It also proposes recommendations for the forestry sector, which mainly include re-alignment of the forest departments in terms of attitude, aptitude and Organisational capacity to orient itself towards the conducive use of technology oriented environment in the country. Adoption of Geoinformation Management Tools and management related to continuous process improvement and Business Process Re-engineering have been recommended
Conservation and Restoration of Mangrove Forests of Mumbai Metropolitan Region
The project involved developing a conservation and restoration of mangroves in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The report speaks about the drivers of mangrove destruction in the MMR that were identified after detailed survey. It further gives recommendations for conservation and restoration of the mangroves.
Mapping of Hutment (Encroachment) in Sanjay Gandhi National Park
The project involved surveying and mapping of actual Geo-location of each hut, including areas of evacuated encroachments and plantation areas. It involved development of an ‘Online Digital Interface’ in the form of an ‘Intranet Site’ for the internal use of the department for monitoring the status of encroachment.
Change Detection of Encroachment and Urban Sprawl around the boundary of Sanjay Gandhi National Park and Tungareshwar WLS, Mumbai
The project assessed the changes in encroachments and urban sprawl over a period of 20 years, using high resolution remotely sensed data of 1995, 2000, 2005 and 2010. This helped the park management in ascertaining the period when a particular encroachment came up. This proved to be an important element in supporting administrative and legal proceedings pertaining to illegal occupations/encroachments.
2017
Preparation of a Detailed Project Report for implementation of Biodiversity conservation action plan
Divisional Forest Officer, Dantewada, Forest Circle, Jagdalpur, floated an Expression of interest for ‘Preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for implementation of Biodiversity conservation action plan for Kirandul and Bacheli Iron-Ore project’ (10 years) along with Implementation Protocols’ in June. A presentation was made at CCF, Jagdalpur Office in July. The project did not take-off on account of security concerns in the region.
Workshop for Ecological Monitoring at Jagdalpur
A four day workshop was conducted by the organisation along with its sister concern, Wildlife and We Protection Foundation at Jagdalpur for the staff of Kanger Valley National Park in July. In this workshop the staff was introduced to various techniques of ecological monitoring. They were also introduced to various aspects related to patrolling, crime detection, macro and micro elements of ecosystem and laws pertaining to forest. A one day field trip was also a part of the workshop wherein the staff was introduced to components of ecological monitoring in the field.
Development Master Plan and Detailed Project Report for Proposed Leopard Safari, and associated Ecotourism Facilities at Ambegavhan, Tal. Junnar, Dist. Pune
The Chief Conservator of Forests, (Territorial) Pune, Maharashtra, India published a RFP for Expression of Interest for appointment of consultant for preparation of Master Plan and Detailed Project Report for Proposed Leopard Safari and associated Ecotourism Facilities at Ambegavhan, Tal. Junnar, Dist. Pune in the Jurisdiction of Chief Conservator of Forest (Territorial) Pune, Maharashtra. SATS along with Wildlife and We Protection Foundation, NP Bridging, Antwerp, Belgium and Appenhaul Zoo, Apendroon, The Netherlands submitted a bid expressing our interest in the work. The entire area selected for the safari was 88.57 ha. This because fencing such a large area would have been a financial burden for the authorities and was an unwanted intervention which would not have yielded fruitful results. In order to develop the entire area, and at the same time be financially achievable for the authorities, a phase-wise development was envisaged. The Government of Maharashtra shelved the project after two years for want of funds.
Development of DPR for Nature safari and allied Eco-Tourism activities at Mohrenga
The Raipur Forest Division, Chhattisgarh floated an Expression of Interest inviting organisations to bid for Development of DPR for Nature safari and allied Eco-Tourism activities at Mohrenga. The organisation competed and was invited to make a presentation before the CCF Raipur in October. The project was awarded to the SATS Integrated Conservation Solutions Pvt. Ltd., but did not take-off due to paucity of funds.
Surya Regional Water Supply Scheme
We were approached by L&T Pvt. Ltd. to provide consultancy for obtaining Forest Clearance and Wildlife Clearance for The Surya Regional Water Supply Scheme. The task was taken up the task and the final Stage-II clearance has been obtained from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, New Delhi.
Catchment Area Treatment Plan for maintenance of Ecosystem Services for Human wellbeing- A Sanjay Gandhi National Park Perspective
This project involved facilitation of the hydrological functioning of the catchment and augmentation of water quality of Dahisar river and its tributaries. The project envisaged conservation of soil and arresting soil erosion due to floods and siltation of the river and its tributaries. It envisaged Catchment Based Planning for wildlife management. This project continued for half of the project period which was one year and was eventually discontinued by the Forest Department. SATS submitted all the interim project work developed in GIS Domain to the Director, Sanjay Gandhi National Park for their further use.
2018
A Digital Spatial Planning and Management Support System Perspective for Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Mumbai Maharashtra
This project was allocated in the year 2016. The project work continued for the entire year during 2018. The delay in initiation of the project was due to disparity in the spatial database provided by the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. The rectification of the boundary amounted to re-surveying the boundary of the National Park.
Mapping of Encroachments in and around Sanjay Gandhi National Park
This was an extensive task which demanded an intensive component of accuracy. The findings were used in an integrated and a comprehensive manner to formulate deliverables that may be used regularly by the SGNP Management for monitoring and evaluation of encroachments. An Intranet Portal was developed for the internal use of the forest department as an ‘Encroachment and a Monitoring Tool’.

Due to disparity regarding the boundary of Sanjay Gandhi National Park and due to technical issues in procurement of the satellite imageries from the National Remote Sensing Center, Hyderabad, this project took longer than planned. The work was conducted during the year 2018 and continued till 2019.

Preparation of Wildlife Conservation Plan for the area surrounding the Gojoli-Somanpalli Dongargaon Limestone Block in the Gondpipri, Tehsil, Chandrapur District.
The Proposed Project is for Mining Lease of Gojoli-Somanpali-Dongargaon Limestone Block (Auctioned Block) (Area:646.55 ha) with Limestone Production Capacity 1.0 Million TPA, Soil-0.10 Million TPA, OB-0.15 Million TPA & Waste-0.25 Million TPA (Total Excavation-1.50 Million TPA) along with installation of Impact Crusher-500 TPH Capacity with Screen/Wobbler at Villages: Somanpalli, Dhaba, Chak Dubarpeth, Chak Navegaon, Gojoli Makta & Chak Gojoli, Tehsil: Gondpipri, District: Chandrapur, Maharashtra.
Wildlife Mitigation Plan submergence area of Kholsapada –l Minor Irrigation Project
We prepared a Wildlife Mitigation Plan for a Minor Irrigation project that involved construction of an earthen dam on Local Tumbhari Nalla, a tributary of Vaitrana River. The proposed dam site was near village Karanjon (Kholsapada), Tal. Vasai, Dist-Thane, which is about l5 km. from Vasai. The project was located within 10 km of the Deemed Eco-sensitive Zone of the Tungareshwar Wildlife Sanctuary and the forest area involved in the project was 139.473 Ha. The catchment area of the project had no village in it therefore no human displacement was involved. Since the area involved was small, the project was completed within a period of three months.
